This time around, Fortnite Battle Royale arrives in an Android adaptation at the hands of Epic Games Studio. Best of all, none of the original visuals or game system was changed, and is completely retained on your smartphone.

The biggest new feature with respect to other battle royale games is that you can build buildings in your game area. Use them as refuge, look for gunpowder and watch your back. To hold the temporary walls and ramp together, you will need to raise the base material. In the meantime, you'll need to tackle an invisible obstacle that extends from the outside to the shrug, which is designed to keep you on your toes and in constant motion throughout each match.

In terms of visual effects, set on an Unreal Engine 4 motor, the game is very similar to its PC and console counterparts. Not only this, but its entire monetization system is also exactly the same. The game is completely free, with the addition of aesthetic improvements for purchase, which you can pick up via in-app purchases. Better yet, Epic Games is rolling out cross-play between the versions, which means you can participate in PvP battles with other PC, PS4, Xbox One, iOS, and Android players.

As expected, Epic Games has released Fortnite for Android - but it's not available in the Google Play Store. You have to install it manually. Here's how to do it.

Update: Fortnite was made available on the Google Play Store… and then it was removed on August 13th, 2020. You can still sideload Fortnite on any Android device and skip the Play Store—or, if you have a Samsung device, you can install. Get it from Samsung's App Store.

One of the cool things about Android is the ability to install APKs—Android Package Kits—that are not included in the Play Store. It allows developers to test apps to users without official channels and gives users the freedom to install specific apps that they may not be able to get elsewhere. This, of course, comes with the risk of compromising security.

Alas, this is the route Epic decided to go with Fortnite for various reasons, which we won't get into here. While it takes a little more trouble for you to start it up, it's actually not that difficult to do—depending on your phone model, though, the process may be a little different.
